The Department of Justice has filed a lawsuit to have SB 1137 thrown out on constitutional grounds.
NARO-CA has been working hard on the policy and legal fronts to push back against this unjust law, which impacts hundreds of thousands of oil and gas mineral and royalty owners.
This action is a ray of hope for royalty owners who depend on California’s oil and gas production for their livelihoods. Royalty owners are not giant companies. We are farmers, ranchers, retirees, students, and working Californians who form the backbone of our state.
We thank the Department of Justice for intervening on behalf of our constitutionally protected property rights and by extension for California’s energy security and fuel affordability, issues that affect all of us.
